Hosts
PWSA-WI Hobby Day 2007

On March 24th, Prader-Willi Homes of Oconomowoc hosted the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Wisconsin’s Annual Hobby Day event.  There were one hundred and fifty-one people of all ages from around the state who came to the Oconomowoc Developmental Training Canter school grounds and enjoyed a fun filled day of crafts, activities, dance, and socialization.  Hobby Day has always been a highly anticipated event. Whether the participants created scented soaps, made a birdhouse, tied a blanket, or danced the day away, it was unanimous from all that the 2007 Hobby Day was the most fun filled and successful Hobby Day to date.

Exciting Year for the PWHO Special Olympic Basketball Teams

With the inspiring number of individuals from PWHO interested in participating in Special Olympic Basketball and the addition of numerous talented athletes from Lad Lake, this year has been the most exhilarating year to date.

On March 10th, three PWHO Special Olympic Basketball Teams enthusiastically left the town of Oconomowoc and headed to Wilmot, Wisconsin for the long awaited District tournament. Our three teams, the Gladiators, the Warriors, and the Knights, trained hard, stayed focused, and arrived at the District competition with the desire to win. All three teams were in separate divisions. The district competition consists of two rounds, where the first round qualifies you for the second, also known as the Championship round. In the first round the Knights, coached by Jeff Wiggins, Jennifer Groth, and James Gordon, got off to an early lead ending the first quarter 14 to 2. This led the Knights to a victory of 28 to 20 in the first round and qualified them for the Championship round. The Knights won the championship round by a blow out 52-8. The Gladiators, coached by James Korsmo and Ashley Donovan, played an incredible, on the edge of your seat, game in the first round. One of the PWHO female athletes (Jessica) stole the ball from the opposing team within the last 30 seconds of the game and scored, resulting in a 16-14 victory. The Gladiators won the Championship game by a landslide 32-10. The third team, the Warriors, coached by Seth Bezanson, Nancy Coats, and Ceatrin Fello, had a close game but managed to pull ahead and win 22-20. The Championship round was just as intense a win as the first round, with a final score of 18 to 16.  The PWHO teams’ victories qualified them for State Competition at the three-day event to be held in Oshkosh Wisconsin on March 30-April 1, at The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The results from the State competition were as follows:

Warriors – With a season record of 4-2

Won 4th place

Gladiators – With a season record of 3-3

Won 3rd place

Knights – With a season record 6-0

Won 1st place

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO PARTICIPATED!
